MTSU Is Shaping the Future of Cybersecurity in Tennessee

Cybersecurity has never been more urgent. With attacks increasing in scale and sophistication, Middle Tennessee State University’s Jones College of Business is stepping forward to meet the challenge—preparing students, supporting employers, and strengthening community resilience. In 2024, Jones College Department of Information Systems and Analytics launched both a Bachelor of Science with an optional Data Analytics concentration, and a Master of Science in Cybersecurity Management. Enrollment across the two programs has soared, with 169 students enrolled in less than two years.

This growth reflects both industry need and the program’s strong design. The curriculum blends technical fundamentals with business strategy, covering systems analysis, networking, cryptography, security design, laws and regulations, risk assessment, and contingency planning. Students can choose on-campus or online learning, and graduates are well-prepared for roles such as information security analyst—a career with a projected 35% growth rate through 2031 and a median salary over $100,000 (BLS).

MTSU recently launched the new Center for Cybersecurity Management to support the programs and is in the planning stages to create a Cyber Range to train and serve the Tennessee community.
